Tran Van Dan, 28, found the turtle near his home in Nghi Xuan Commune and turned it over to local police on September 21.
Authorities identified the animal as a Chinese stripe-necked turtle (Mauremys sinensis), which is listed among endangered, precious and rare forest species in Group IIB under Vietnam's regulations.
Local police and forest rangers later transferred the turtle to Vu Quang National Park, where it will be cared for before being released into its natural habitat.
The Chinese stripe-necked turtle was found near a home in Nghi Xuan Commune.
