Vietnam confirmed an additional 15,895 Covid-19 infections in 59 localities nation-wide on Saturday, according to the Ministry of Health.
According to the ministry's report, 15,883 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 59 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Ca Mau (1,341), Hanoi (1,244), HCM City (1,019), Tay Ninh (941), and Ben Tre (826). There were 12 imported patients confirmed today.
The new infections showed an increase of 668 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 10,493 infections found in the community.
As of Saturday evening, 1,518,886 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (493,669), Binh Duong (288,930), Dong Nai (94,511), Tay Ninh (63,073), and Long An (39,594).
With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,524,368. The country now stands 32nd among 223 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.
On December 18, an additional 1,645 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,097,163.
On Saturday evening, a further 248 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 29,351. The deaths were reported in some localities including HCM City (65), Dong Nai (24), An Giang (23), Tien Giang (15), Kien Giang (15), Binh Duong (14), Dong Thap (12), Can Tho (12), Soc Trang (11), Tay Ninh (9), Long An (9), Vinh Long (9), Khanh Hoa (7), Binh Thuan (7), Ca Mau (6), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (4), Bac Lieu (3), Quang Ngai (1), Gia Lai (1), and Lang Son (1).
Vietnam on December 17 administered 955,033 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 137.57 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 60.79 million people having received two doses.
