Vietnam confirms 31 new Covid-19 patients, total tally reaches 1,850

According to the ministry's report,  30 of the newly found patients were all infected in the community and linked to the hotspot Hai Duong province. They include 17 in Hai Duong, five in Quang Ninh, four in Hanoi, two in Gia Lai, one in Bac Giang and one in Binh Duong provinces.

The new virus outbreak has so far spread to nine provinces and cities including Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, Hanoi, Gia Lai, Hoa Binh, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City.

The imported patient is a 24-year-old South African man who arrived from the UAE at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on January 17.

He was sent to a local quarantine area upon arrival and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on January 31.

The patient is now being treated at the Cu Chi Fields Hospital for Covid-19 patients.

With these new infection cases, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,850, including 963 locally-transmitted cases with 270 cases reported since the new outbreak started in Hai Duong on January 27.

As of 6 pm on February 1, a total of 1,460 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, as many as 26,861 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
