100 war martyrs' remains and two mass graves found at HCM City Park

Authorities found four more sets of martyrs' remains at Le Thi Rieng Park in HCM City, bringing the total to 100, plus two collective graves.

These figures were released by the Ho Chi Minh City Command on the afternoon of July 18. The search team found four more sets of remains, along with several personal effects.

The total number of remains found so far has reached 100 individual sets, along with two collective burial sites. In the coming period, the search team will continue to widen the search area and release updated figures when new results are available.

The search and recovery operation at Le Thi Rieng Park was launched following conclusions reached by Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra after a workshop examining information about a suspected mass grave at the former Do Thanh-Chi Hoa Cemetery, the site now occupied by the park.

Based on witness testimony and historical records, the Ho Chi Minh City High Command had previously estimated that hundreds of soldiers killed during the 1968 Tet Offensive may have been buried in the area.

The search began on July 6, when authorities uncovered the first seven sets of remains.

On July 17, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and State President To Lam led a central government delegation to lay flowers and incense in tribute to the fallen before inspecting the ongoing search and recovery operation at Le Thi Rieng Park.
