Investigators said the network exploited interest in the 2026 FIFA World Cup to organise online football betting using a multi-tier account system that involved hundreds of gamblers.

Police arrested several suspects on July 10, including the alleged ringleader, Nguyen Duc Nghiem, 32, from Quang Ngai Province.
According to investigators, Nghiem had operated a master betting account since February before distributing subordinate accounts to associates, who then supplied agents and bettors.
Authorities estimated the network processed nearly VND 1.2 trillion (USD 45.7 million) in bets, making it one of the largest online football gambling rings uncovered in the province.
