According to the Lao Cai Province People's Committee, persistent rainfall had damaged eight houses by the afternoon of July 17, forcing emergency evacuations as conditions deteriorated.
Several areas across Mu Cang Chai Commune remain at high risk of landslides, while floodwaters on the Nam Kim Stream have risen rapidly and are flowing strongly, posing an immediate threat to riverside communities as well as roads, irrigation facilities and other critical infrastructure.
In response to the worsening weather, Vice Chairman of the Lao Cai Province People's Committee Giang Quoc Hung signed an urgent directive ordering government agencies, emergency services and local authorities to intensify disaster response and recovery efforts to protect lives and property.
Authorities have also been told to provide temporary accommodation and ensure access to essential living necessities for displaced families.
Provincial leaders also ordered local officials to strengthen safety warnings around landslide-prone areas, damaged bridges, roads and flooded crossings. Authorities have been instructed to complete a comprehensive assessment of damage to homes, agricultural production, infrastructure and residents' property so financial assistance and recovery measures can be delivered promptly, helping affected families return to normal life as quickly as possible.
