The Covaxin vaccine produced by Bharat Biotech International Limited was previously granted with the Emergency Use Listing (EUL) by the World Health Organisation.

 The Ministry of Health has approved the Indian Covaxin Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use in Vietnam, becoming the ninth to be endorsed in the country.

The Drug Administration of Vietnam is responsible for licensing the import of the Indian vaccine. Meanwhile, the agency is also in charge of the vaccine quality management.

Meanwhile, the Administration of Science Technology and Training will select and guide qualified units to assess the vaccine's safety and efficacy based on advice from the Advisory Council on the use of Vaccines and Biologicals.

The General Department of Preventive Medicine will manage the vaccination.

The National Institute for Control of Vaccines and Biologicals has been assigned to conduct checks and grant certificates for batches of the vaccine before use.

At present, there are eight foreign Covid-19 vaccines that have obtained a licence for emergency use in Vietnam, including AstraZeneca, China National Biotec Group’s Vero Cell (CNBG)/Sinopharm, Sputnik V, Pfizer, Spikevax, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, and Hayat-Vax.
