A representative of the Dong Nai Nature-Culture Reserve said on June 20 that the reserve was coordinating with local authorities to determine the cause of death.

The carcasses were discovered on the evening of June 19 during a routine patrol by forest rangers in Sub-zone 123 in Tri An Ward.
The first gaur, weighing about 1.2 tonnes, was found dead in a forest compartment within the sub-zone. The animal was lying on its side with its legs raised, and the carcass had begun decomposing but remained largely intact.
A second gaur weighing about 800 kilogrammes was found around 200 metres away in the same area. It was also found dead in a similar position and condition.
Preliminary assessments indicated possible signs of external impact or trapping, according to reserve officials.
The Dong Nai Nature-Culture Reserve has requested specialist agencies to conduct examinations and assist with the investigation.
