The accident happened at 5:10 pm on July 10, near Ai Quoc and Hong Lac communes, and resulted in one injured train driver, three overturned carriages and truck.

Hai Duong Traffic Police, the local Traffic Safety Committee and the railroad managers have quickly called for cars and buses so passengers could continue their travel without paying additional fees.

18 hours later the traffic jams that caused by the accident have not been alleviated.

Deputy director of the Hanoi Passenger Railway Transportation Company, Nguyen Van Binh, said they sent a 100-tonne crane to help, however the clean up is still in progress. He added that, though the section does not have barriers, it does has warning signs to warn drivers before crossing the railway.

"Two carriages for luggage and one carriage for generators were overturned. Our train driver was also transferred to Viet-Duc Hospital yesterday. We are cooperating fully with the police for the investigation." Binh said.

On July 11, three trains from Hanoi to Haiphong were also cancelled. Their operation will be continued once clean up efforts are complete.

Previously, on April 23, a train from Hanoi to Haiphong collided with a truck in Hung Yen Province.
