
The figures marked a sharp decline from the same day in 2025, with 21 fewer accidents, eight fewer fatalities and 10 fewer injuries.
Authorities said traffic police nationwide stepped up patrols and enforcement to maintain road safety. Officers handled 6,129 violations, issuing fines estimated at more than VND 21 billion.
Enforcement measures included the temporary seizure of 31 cars, 1,751 motorcycles and 85 other vehicles. Police also suspended 147 driving licences and deducted points from 1,083 others under Vietnam’s traffic penalty system.
Alcohol-related offences accounted for 1,570 cases, while 1,417 violations involved speeding. Other offences included overcrowding (16 cases), improper passenger pick-up and drop-off (21 cases), illegal use of mobile phones or electronic devices while driving (16 cases), and two drug-related cases.
On February 16, authorities recorded 50 traffic accidents, resulting in 28 deaths and 31 injuries.
Officials said the decline reflected intensified enforcement and ongoing efforts to improve road safety nationwide.
