Tornado damages 46 homes as resident dies during repairs

A tornado and strong winds damaged 46 homes in Dong Thap Province, while a resident was killed the following day in an accident while repairing storm damage.

Authorities in Long Binh Commune said on June 25 that recovery efforts were under way after severe weather caused widespread damage across the area.

The tornado and strong gusts struck on the evening of June 24, tearing roofs from 46 houses across five hamlets in the commune.

Local authorities mobilise personnel to help residents repair their houses on June 25.

The storm also damaged four livestock shelters, toppled two electricity poles, uprooted 11 trees and caused losses to crops and fruit orchards.

A fatal accident occurred on the morning of June 25 when a local resident was repairing a damaged house in Khuong Ninh Hamlet. The victim died after suffering injuries during the repair work.

Following the disaster, local authorities and the Long Binh Commune Civil Defence Command mobilised personnel to assist residents and restore normal conditions as quickly as possible.

By 9 am on June 25, repair teams had completed work on 11 damaged houses and cleared fallen trees and damaged power infrastructure.

Officials said assessments of losses to agricultural land and crops are continuing.
