Forecasts indicate floodwaters on the Thu Bon will peak at 5.65-5.70 metres at Cau Lau, 0.17-0.22 metres higher than the 1964 level of 5.48 metres, and at 3.45-3.50 metres at Hoi An, exceeding the historic flood by 5-10 centimetres. The Han River at Cam Le is expected to reach 3.4 metres, 0.9 metres above Alarm Level 3.

The 1964 great flood remains one of the most devastating in central Vietnam’s history, causing catastrophic damage from Thua-Thien Hue to Binh Dinh.

Heavy rain across Vietnam's central region is forecast to persist until October 30 before easing from the following day.

Floodwaters remain high this morning but are slowly receding on most rivers in the Hue-Danang area, with widespread inundation likely to persist for another 3 to 4 days.
