Authorities in Dien Bien Province held a meeting on Covid-19 prevention and control after three people tested positive for the virus on February 4

At an urgent meeting held on the evening of February 4 under the chair of the province Party Secretary Nguyen Van Thang, the local Covid-19 Prevention and Control Steering Committee announced that three women aged between 15 and 17 in Muong Ang District and Dien Bien Phu City had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 following their first test.

According to the committee's report, the three women took a passenger bus from Cam Giang District in Hai Duong Province to Dien Bien on the evening of February 2. They arrived in Dien Bien on the morning of February 3. There were some 90 passengers on the bus.

As Hai Duong Province is currently a virus-hit area, two of the three women were sent to a quarantine area and the other was self-quarantined at home.

Speaking at the meeting, Dien Bien provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Van Thang asked concerned agencies to quickly trace for people who have had close contact with these three cases during the night.

The provincial Department of Information and Communications was asked to send SMS requiring all passengers who took the same bus with the women to contact local health departments for viral testing and quarantine.

Speaking with Dantri/DTiNews on February 5, chairman of Dien Bien Phu City People's Committee, Le Tien Dung, said that the city also held a meeting during the night after receiving information from the Covid-19 Prevention and Control Steering Committee about the case in the area.

"After being informed about one case in the city, we immediately carried out preventive measures and found one more case," Dung said. "We have locked down and sterilised two villages where the two people reside and are tracing for people who have had close contact with them for quarantine."

The Ministry of Health on Friday morning reported that the country has confirmed no new Covid-19 infection cases over the past 12 hours. Patient tally stood at 1,957.

The virus outbreak has so far spread to ten provinces and cities including Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, Hanoi, Gia Lai, Hoa Binh, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Hai Phong, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City.
