Three new hospitals ease pressure on Ho Chi Minh City healthcare

Three major general hospitals built at key gateways to Ho Chi Minh City are gradually easing pressure on the city’s overcrowded healthcare system after nearly a year in operation.

The Thu Duc Regional General Hospital, one of the city’s flagship projects marking the 50th anniversary of the liberation of southern Vietnam and national reunification, was inaugurated on April 24, 2025, at the northeastern gateway of the city.

Built at a cost of VND 1.91 trillion (USD 72.8 million), the hospital spans more than 58,000 square metres and has 1,000 high-quality beds. It is equipped with modern medical systems and specialised treatment departments meeting top-tier general hospital standards.

The main complex includes one basement level and 10 above-ground floors housing a full range of medical departments and specialised healthcare services.

After nearly a year of operation, outpatient visits at Thu Duc hospital have risen to between 3,500 and 4,000 patients per day, up from around 3,000 previously. Inpatient numbers have also increased from about 550 cases to between 750 and 800.

The hospital has continued investing in facilities, technical infrastructure and green spaces aimed at improving patient experience and working conditions for medical staff.

At around the same time, Hoc Mon Regional General Hospital was also inaugurated with 1,000 beds and total investment of nearly VND 1.9 trillion.

The hospital includes a rooftop helipad on the 12th floor to support air ambulance services.

The new hospitals feature spacious and modern treatment areas designed to address flooding problems previously affecting suburban healthcare facilities.

Outdoor areas have been landscaped with green spaces and open walkways.

In October 2025, Cu Chi Regional General Hospital, located at the city’s northwestern gateway, was also inaugurated with 1,000 beds and total investment of VND 1.854 trillion.

The hospital includes one basement level and 13 above-ground floors, designed with integrated medical facilities, environmentally friendly infrastructure and a helipad.

Clinical and diagnostic departments are arranged in close proximity to streamline treatment procedures and reduce patient waiting times.

Originally established as Cu Chi District Medical Centre with 500 beds, the hospital has expanded to 1,000 beds and now serves more than 600,000 patients annually, mainly from Cu Chi  and neighbouring localities.

Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Heaflth said the hospitals would improve healthcare services for the city’s 15 million residents and surrounding southern provinces while easing pressure on central hospitals.
