Three missing after fishing boat sinks off Spratly Islands

A fishing boat in the central province of Quang Nam has sunk off the Spratly Islands, leaving three fishermen missing.

A fishing boat in the central province of Quang Nam has sunk off the Spratly Islands, leaving three fishermen missing.

According to the provincial Border Defence Force, the incident occurred on the morning of September 2 when the fishing boat with 44 fishermen onboard was on the way to Spratly Islands to shelter from a storm.

Nearby fishing boats worked on the search. On the afternoon of the same day, 41 fishermen were rescued; meanwhile, the three others have remained missing.

Local authorities have continued searching for the missing.

The Vietnam Coastal Radio Station System called on boats and ships around the area where the fishing boat sank to help on the search.
