The ecstasy pills found.
The Binh Hai Border Guard Station announced on Sunday that a local man, Pham An, found a plastic box drifting while walking along a beach in Binh Chau Commune on Saturday morning. The 74-year-old man took the box and opened it to see a plastic bag containing lots of white pills that had a strong smell. He then left it on the beach.
The same evening, An heard that residents in the neighbouring Binh Tri Commune found a plastic bag containing thousands of ecstasy pills that looked similar to what he found on a beach there. An decided to inform Binh Hai Border Guard Station of his findings and went back to the beach to show them.
With An's findings, the total number of drug pills found on Quang Ngai beaches reached 3,000 in just one day on November 23.
Local authorities are co-operating with concerned agencies to find the origins of the drugs.
In January, three kilos of drugs were also found in three packages on a beach in Binh Son District.
In late 2022, 58 kilos of methamphetamine were also found drifting onto beaches in central provinces from Quang Tri to Binh Thuan.
According to the Ministry of Public Security, these drugs may belong to illegal trading rings that tried to get rid of them to avoid police investigation.
