Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung met with his Thai counterpart Yingluck Shinawatra in Vientiane on March 12 to discuss measures to promote bilateral cooperation.
The meeting is held at the sideline of the 6th Cambodia-Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam Summit (CLMV 6), the 5th Ayeyawadi-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy Summit (ACMECS 5) and the seventh Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Summit (CLV7).
The two PMs expressed delight at the constant development of friendship and comprehensive cooperation in politics, national security and defense, economy, trade, investment, society and culture, especially since the Thailand-Vietnam Joint Cabinet Meeting in Hanoi on October 27, 2012.
They agreed that the two foreign ministries would work closely with related agencies and departments to create a roadmap for establishing the Vietnam-Thailand Strategic Partnership and to arrange for the two countries’ Bilateral Joint Committee meeting later this year.
PM Dung expressed his hope that the Thai government will futher encourage enterprises to invest in Vietnam, especially in its central region, to fully tap the potential of the East-West Economic Corridor.
He and his Thai counterpart reached a consensus on ensuring the environment and water security of the Mekong River.
They supported ASEAN’s stand, which was announced in its Declaration on Six-Point Principles relating to the maintenance of peace, stability, safety and maritime security in the East Sea, the peaceful settlement of disputes on the basis of international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982) and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties on the East Sea (DOC) and looked towards building a Code of Conduct on the East Sea (COC).
Thailand, Vietnam promote comprehensive ties
