Railway companies have started offering train tickets for the Tet holiday since October 1.
By the mid-day of October 1, most train tickets on short routes, such as from Danang to HCM City were fully booked.
Ticket sales saw no technical problems despite the high number of tickets sold.
Do Quang Van, branch director of Saigon Railways Transport Company, up to 45,000 train tickets were sold through the firm’s online booking system just around one hour after the sale was launched.
At 8 am on October 1, around 14,500 people got access to the website of Vietnam Railways for the ticket booking at the same time, but the system still operated smoothly.
At Saigon Station, there was also no congestion to buy the ticket like previous years.
According to people, it is quite easy to buy tickets for long routes such as from Danang to Hanoi, while it is more difficult to book tickets for shorter distances.
During the Lunar New Year occasion, 25 North-South trains will operate continuously in either direction to serve up to 14,000 passengers per day. On the occasion, the railway sector will launch an additional 15 pairs of trains on North-South routes and other key routes including Hanoi-Vinh, Saigon-Quy Nhon, Saigon-Nha Trang and Saigon-Phan Thiet.
Vietnam Railways has allowed customers to book train tickets and make the payments through mobile phones since May 7.
