The Phu Quoc Special Zone Police in An Giang Province said they were detaining Tran An Khang, 25, for investigation on suspicion of robbery.
According to police, the incident occurred on the morning of May 2, when a 27-year-old visitor from Tay Ninh Province, had set up his phone on a beach in the Suoi Lon area to record a souvenir video.
A young man allegedly approached suddenly, grabbed the device and fled the scene.
After receiving the report, police launched a search operation and tracked down the suspect at around 10 am the same day.
Khang was arrested while hiding in a makeshift hut in the Duong To area, police said.
During questioning, the suspect admitted to the offence, investigators added.
Authorities advised tourists to remain vigilant and keep personal belongings secure in public areas and on beaches.
