The conference heard that in the past years, particularly in 2015, certain types of crimes were curbed but the situation remained very complicated in addition to a rise in civil disputes and administrative punishment.
The people's courts and military courts at all levels have basically fulfilled their tasks through improving the quality of trial proceedings, strengthening judicial administrative reform and boosting the application of information technology to ensure the transparency of court operations.
In the past ten years, courts at all levels have handled more than 661,500 cases involving more than 1.1 million defendants including over 4,300 cases of corruption with 11,000 defendants.
Many major corruption cases attracting great public concern went on trial including the cases of Huynh Thi Huyen Nhu, former deputy chief of the Risk Management Department of the Ho Chi Minh City branch of Vietinbank; Nguyen Dinh Than, former director of Vinaconex 10 and the case of Vinashin Ocean Shipping Company (Vinashinlines) among others.
Politburo member and Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court Truong Hoa Binh said that the Supreme People's Court always takes the lead in implementing Party Resolutions and laws on anti-corruption, noting that anti-corruption is a long and difficult struggle.
He also pointed out several measures to improve the adjudication quality of courts and anti-corruption works.
