Storm Etau forecasted to affect southern central Vietnam

Storm Etau has been forecasted to hit the southern central region of Vietnam, causing heavy rains, according to the National Centre for Hydrometeorology Forecasting.

Storm Etau has been forecasted to hit the southern central region of Vietnam, causing heavy rains, according to the National Centre for Hydrometeorology Forecasting.

The National Centre for Hydrometeorology Forecasting reported that at 9 this morning, November 9, the storm was located about 360 kilometres east of the coast from Binh Dinh to Ninh Thuan provinces with the wind power of 60-75km per hour. The distance would be shortened to 200 kilometres at 10 pm today.

In the next 12-24 hours, the storm would move west to the mainland of Binh Dinh-Ninh Thuan provinces.

It will then weaken into a tropical depression with the wind speed of 10-15 kilometre per hour.

From early tomorrow, November 10, the mainland of localities from Binh Dinh to Khanh Hoa would see violent winds. Provinces from Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa would also face heavy rain.

Khanh Hoa Province has defined around 174 areas which are at risk of landslides; so, local authorities have planned to evacuate 23,350 people to avoid Storm Etau.

Khanh Hoa is home to 4,026 fishing boats with a total 18,923 crew. Local authorities have informed all fishing boats of the storm information for shelter.
