The ruined communal house
The communal house features the architecture of the Le Trung Hung Dynasty. Since 2001, several minor restorations were carried out but the house deteriorated so badly that it looked like it might collapse at any time. The local households donated USD34.3 each to repair the house.
However, instead of a restoration, the original wooden structure has been replaced with bricks and cement. This is a violation of the Law on Cultural Heritage as Luong Xa Communal House had been recognised as a historical cultural relic.
The public also expressed anger at the careless restoration. After receiving the reports, the authorities of Hanoi asked Ung Hoa authorities to punish involved individuals and organisations and submit solutions to the problem.
Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports said this was a regrettable case and they must also take part of the blame since they were also responsible for the management of Luong Xa Communal House.
In 2017, Lien Bat Commune authorities reported to the district authorities for restoration directives. However, while the restoration procedures haven't even done yet, the communal house was already ruined.
