South Korean passenger caught with 3.6kg of cocaine at Noi Bai Airport

Vietnamese customs officers have seized 3.6kg of cocaine hidden in the luggage of a South Korean passenger arriving at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.

According to the Vietnam Customs Department on March 4, authorities uncovered the case during a crackdown carried out over the Lunar New Year 2026 holiday period.

During the campaign, customs forces coordinated with other agencies to dismantle 35 drug trafficking cases and seize about 165kg of narcotics.

In a notable incident on February 25, officers inspected the luggage of a South Korean passenger arriving on a flight from Qatar to Noi Bai International Airport. They discovered about 3.6kg of white powder suspected to be drugs carefully concealed among personal belongings.

Preliminary testing confirmed the substance was positive for Cocaine. The case remains under further investigation in accordance with Vietnamese law.

During the same period, authorities in northern border areas also uncovered several drug trafficking cases.

On February 27, customs officers in Son La Province coordinated with provincial police to arrest three suspects transporting drugs illegally across the border into Vietnam. Officers seized nearly 35kg of narcotics, including 34kg of crystal methamphetamine and two bricks of heroin.

Authorities also confiscated one military-grade firearm, two magazines and 11 rounds of ammunition, including one loaded in the chamber.

Earlier, on February 1, customs officers in Son La worked with border guards at Chieng Khuong Border Gate and local police in Chieng Khuong Commune to arrest a suspect for illegal drug possession. Officers seized 103 methamphetamine pills in the operation.
