Military Region 4 said on April 20 its search and recovery team had exhumed a soldier’s remains in Hieu Giang Commune, Quang Tri Province.
The remains were discovered that morning at a depth of 0.7 metres inside a combat bunker. The bones were fragmented into small pieces, with some having decomposed. Artefacts found at the site included bunker lining fabric, a canteen, a B52-era mess bowl, parachute cord, communication wires and an AK submachine gun.

Following the recovery, the remains were carefully preserved and honoured with incense at the discovery site.
The search team is continuing to expand the excavation area while coordinating with relevant authorities to verify and cross-check information in an effort to identify the soldier.
Since early April, recovery units have located and exhumed 10 sets of remains in Quang Tri.

Notably, on April 2 and April 6, at the Cha Ly mountain area in Huong Lap Commune, Quang Tri Province, two sets of remains were found alongside a plastic tube and a glass vial believed to contain information related to the fallen soldiers.
