Patients were admitted on the afternoon of March 23 to several facilities, including Quang Ngai General Hospital, Phuc Hung Hospital and the Quang Ngai Obstetrics and Paediatrics Hospital, showing symptoms consistent with food poisoning.
All patients reported eating banh mi from a vendor in Tinh Khe Commune and are receiving treatment, with doctors focusing on preventing serious complications.
Authorities are investigating the source of contamination, with food and patient samples sent to the Pasteur Institute Nha Trang for analysis.
The incident follows a major outbreak in 2025 in Quang Ngai, when 203 people were hospitalised after eating banh mi from a local outlet. In January, the shop owner was fined more than VND 213 million (approximately USD 8,102) for food safety violations.
