School students receive ASEAN young scientist awards

Vietnamese students have won second and third prizes for math and science at the Search for SEAMEO Young Scientists (SSYS) 9th Regional Congress held in Malaysia from March 3-7.

Vietnamese students have won second and third prizes for math and science at the Search for SEAMEO Young Scientists (SSYS) 9th Regional Congress held in Malaysia from March 3-7.

The awardees included Le Ngoc Thu Thao and Ngo Quang Thai from a Hanoi-based Experimental Secondary School who were honoured for their research on Making Tropical Storms and Tropical Depression Calendar for Northern and Central Provinces of Vietnam.

Third prize winners were Mai Dieu Quynh and Nguyen Hoang Tung from the Hanoi-based Vietnam-Germany High School who studied enzyme laccase for application towards sustainable development.

The SSYS has been held every two years since 1997, aiming to honour young scientific talents from the Southeast Asian region.

This year’s event, themed “natural disaster reduction for sustainable development” received 40 entries from nine ASEAN member countries, excluding Myanmar.
