Tourists to Sapa
According to Hoang Thi Vuong, head of the Sapa Town Department of Culture and Tourism, the festival is among various activities to be held for tourism promotion this year.
"The Sapa Love Festival will feature a love market where young ethnic people will talk, sing and play their traditional games," she said. "In addition, the H’mong custom of “kidnapping wives” and a wedding ceremony of the Red Dao people will also be re-enacted at the festival."The festival aims at encouraging local young people to keep their unique tradition and introduce their diversified culture and customs to visitors, the official added.
Other festivals will also be held in Sapa this summer including Mong-Dao Culture Day in Ta Phin Commune and Cat Cat Culture and Tourism Day. A race will also be held around the terraced fields and mountains to introduce the beautiful landscapes of the area.
Sapa is known as one of the country's most popular tourist spots and attracts lots of people, especially the young. Last year, young people accounted for more than 70 percent of tourist arrivals to the town.
Lao Cai is preparing to host some 4 million visitors in 2022, according to its culture-tourism development plan for 2020-2025.
