The sudden erosion affected many houses

Nguyen Van Dan, vice chairman of Binh Minh Commune said on August 23 that the evacuation was being carried out.

The erosion started at around 5.30 on August 22 in Thanh Phuoc Ward. 44-year-old Tran Kim Chi said, "I was having dinner with my daughter and son when we heard a sudden bang and then the three of us and the house fell into the river. We screamed, and my daughter and I were almost drowned as we don't know how to swim. Luckily, my son swims very well and saved us."

Nguyen Thi Tuyet, another local said she ran out of the house after hearing a cracking noise underground. A few minutes later, her house collapsed into the river.

The eroded area is 200 metres long and 10-20 metres wide. The water flows fast in the current. Some 21 houses were damaged of which seven houses partially fell into the river and two houses were completely swept away. There are large cracks in the area and further land may be swept away.

No one was hurt but the damage is still unclear.

The provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development arrived at the scene to find the cause of the erosion and provide support for over 20 affected households.
