Dong Nai Province plans to begin construction in October on a nearly VND 1.3 trillion (about USD 49.4 million) drainage project designed to prevent flooding at Long Thanh International Airport before it opens later this year.

Provincial authorities said relevant agencies were completing procedures after the project's investment policy was revised and the preliminary design approved. Land clearance and site acquisition are also being accelerated.
The project will dredge and reinforce nearly 20 kilometres of Bung Mon and Da Vang streams, build pipelines linking five retention ponds inside the airport to the streams, and construct five bridges and almost 17 kilometres of rural roads.
The drainage system has long been identified as essential to protecting the airport from flooding. After years of delays, largely due to funding constraints, the central government allocated budget funding for the project in 2025.
