According to local authorities, the boy, Thai Ly Hao Nam, entered the construction site of the Roc Sen Bridge project with three other friends to look for scrap metal on December 31.
Nam suddenly fell into an empty concrete pillar which is around 25cm in diameter and 35m deep.
His friends called for help and a rescue team were sent to the area soon afterwards.
The rescue team has been working many hours to search for the boy. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has also instructed relevant agencies to join in the rescue.
