Dinh Thi Ngoc Lan, deputy head of the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and Dantri representative transfer the donation to Tan's family

According to the family, two-year-old Doan Nhat Tan and his six-year-old brother went to a relative's house to play. While playing with each other, they found petrol stored in the house, poured it onto the floor and lit it up to celebrate a mock birthday party.

Tan was admitted to the hospital with 40% burns. 10% of his body was third-degree burns and 30% of the body was fourth-degree burns.

Tan's father is a small communal official and his mother is a nursery teacher. They can't even afford a house and stay in a dilapidated house of a sister. After Tan was admitted to the hospital, they had sold everything they could but it was not enough.

On July 22, the representatives of Dantri and the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs in Quang Binh visited and transferred VND435,791,701 (USD18,800) to the family of Tan.

Doan Anh Nam, Tan's father, was moved upon receiving the donation. Nam said he had never dreamt of having such a huge amount of money. Many readers also donated directly to the family VND60m (USD2,600).

"We don't know what to say but thank you. Our hope to cure our son is becoming true. I just want him to be healthy and happy," he said.

Tan has recently gone through the 14th skin graft operation. Because Tan is too small, he needs multiple short operations. As of now, the family already spent VND300m (USD12,900) for the treatment.

Nguyen Sy Phuc, chairman of Lam Trach Commune People's Committee also thanked the readers for the help.

"We really appreciate everyone's help to the residents in the area," he said.

Dinh Thi Ngoc Lan, deputy head of the local Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, expressed his high regard for the charity work Dantri has done and hoped that the work would continue to help more families in need.
