Nguyen Thi Van receives donation from readers
Dr Tran Minh Tri said, "The 16-year-old patient is in severe condition. His chest was deformed and the curvature put pressure on his heart, making it hard to breathe. He feels pain even if he just lies still."
According to Van, she and her husband are both orphaned and knew each other at the orphanage. Her husband is affected by the Agent Orange but they fell in love and have four children together. "My eldest daughter has a brain tumour, my husband's health weakened and can't work anymore. I'm in the first stage of cervical cancer," she said.
The family depends on the rice fields for some incomes. No one wants to lend them money as the family can't pay the debts.
On July 3, Dantri Newspaper and Cho Ray Hospital transferred VND125,240,000 (USD5,400) donated by readers to the family. Van said donations continued being donated to them afterwards and the family received an additional VND42,480,000.
As of now, her son has been treated and got better. Van said, "I really don't know what would have happened without your help. Sometimes I just wanted to give up but now we have hope. Not only has my son recovered, but my eldest daughter may also be treated and my second daughter can continue studying."
