The Mai Chi Tho-Luong Dinh Cua intersection of East West Highway is showing signs of serious erosion, at some points up to 20 cm, making the edges in certain sections look like small cliffs.
This poses a danger for trucks and container vehicles using the road, forcing drivers to beware of the edges and making it difficult to change lanes. The drop off is large enough to cause a possible overturn. Many drivers have said that this section of road is very dangerous and they must be extremely careful to avoid accidents.
A number of serious accidents have already occurred near the infamous intersection. Most were attributed to a combination of the dangerous road and high speeds.
The East-West Highway was put into operation in November 2011, and cost USD9.86 trillion (USD466.7 million). Since then it has been repaired three times.
