Over the past two years, Vo Nguyen Giap High School has environmentally-friendly dustbins. Each class is provided with two dustbins, one for rubbish which can be recycled such as plastic bottles and paper and one for other kinds of waste.

After the studying time, students will bring recyclable items to an area of the school and then they will be sold weekly for raising funds helping disadvantaged pupils.
Nguyen Doan Phuong Thao, a school student, said that recyclable materials are also used for class decorations such as flower baskets or stationery case. Thao often does this at home and is strongly supported by her parents.
The school recently earned VND2.6 million (USD113) from waste sale.
Dau Hieu Thuong, the school’s Youth Union Secretary, said the money may be modest but shows the great meaning for students’ environmental protection and charity.
Many other local schools such as Truong Quang Trong Primary School, Nghia Ky Bac Primary School and Duc Chanh Secondary School have followed the suit.
The work helps students to understand about the importance of rubbish classification and how to generate income from recycling.
