PM Dung receives UN’s senior official

PM welcomed Mrs. Michelle Bachelet, head of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women and Chair of the Social Protection Floor Advisory Group.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung yesterday afternoon welcomed Mrs. Michelle Bachelet, head of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women and (UN Women) and Chair of the Social Protection Floor Advisory Group, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung highly spoke of the effective cooperation between Vietnamese agencies and the UN’s organizations.

He lauded the Social Protection Floor, initiated by the International Labor Organization and the World Health Organization, which is an initiative imbued with humanity and highlights the UN’s goal for peace, cooperation and development in all nations.

In its development strategy, said PM Dung, Vietnam pays attention to economic development, social equality and environment protection. Vietnam is carrying out 40 social security programs and policies.

However, Vietnam, a low-income country, still needs stronger cooperation and support from the UN’s organizations in order to more fruitfully realize those policies and programs, stressed the host leader.

Mrs. Michelle Bachelet, who is the former President of Chile, showed her admiration on Vietnam’s social security achievements, describing them the country’s biggest success which should be popularized.

She said that some countries could well respond to the financial crisis when they guaranteed well-being for their citizens.

The UN’s Social Protection Floor was founded to save countries from the economic crisis, stated Mrs. Michelle Bachelet.

The guest pledged to work for Vietnam’s development, especially in the social security field.
