PM calls for tough measures against epidemics

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has called on relevant agencies and localities to take tougher measures against the spread of blue-ear pig disease.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has called on relevant agencies and localities to take tougher measures against the spread of blue-ear pig disease.

The PM stressed the importance of controlling the epidemic to support livestock breeding in 2013.

He also called for better healthcare services and more effective preventative measures to combat human-related diseases.

The PM issued instructions after blue ear pig disease recurred in some central localities threatening pig raising farms. In addition Streptococcus suis – a type of bacteria that causes clinical diseases in pigs – killed two people in Quang Nam province.In the instructions, Dung also asked the Fatherland Front Committee and relevant ministries and agencies to heed and implement Party and State policies supporting social policy beneficiaries and disadvantaged people living below the poverty line, particularly in remote areas.

He urged the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Transport, and local authorities to enforce traffic regulations and ease congestion on key routes into big cities and the venues for large festivals.

The PM also asked the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) to adjust interest rates, settle bad debts, and accelerate the bank restructuring process.
