The first phase of the expressway will span over 51km and have four lanes, starting from Ring Road 3 in HCM City's Cu Chi District and ending in Tay Ninh Province's Ben Cau District.
The project's preparation and construction will span 2024 to 2027.
The new expressway is expected to reduce traffic pressure on National Highway 22 and contribute to the economic and social development of HCM City, Tay Ninh Province, and neighbouring provinces, as well as shorten the travel time between the southeastern region and Cambodia via Moc Bai International Border Gate.
Speaking at a recent meeting, Phan Van Mai, chairman of the HCM City People's Committee, said that after the prime minister approved the project's investment policy, HCM City would urgently carry out site clearance, investor selection, and other preparatory work to ensure the project could start construction before April 30 next year.
