Work on the 179.3-hectare port in Dong Duong Town started in April 2015.

The project invested by the Kien Giang Department of Transport was initially scheduled to be put into use in early 2017. Around 90 percent of it has currently been finished.

The project includes a 4.78-hectare terminal, a 240-metre bridge, an 850-metre dyke and supporting facilities.

The port is designed to serve large cruise ships. It can also serve cargo vessels and those operating in the military and security areas.

Work on the dyke has been basically finished.

The road section linking the wharf with Dong Duong Town has not yet been finished.

Slow capital allocation is among the causes of the project’s sluggish implementation.

VND1.15 trillion of the investment is from the provincial budget with the remainder from Phu Quoc Tourism Development and Investment Joint Stock Company.
