While some people worried about the doomsday prophesied by the Mayans, many others went out to parties and celebrated the occasion of "The Last Days".

People flock to restaurants for doomsday celebration
Restaurants on streets such as Kim Ma, Mai Hac De or Hai Ba Trung in Hanoi received more customers than normal. Many people made light of the occasion, wishing each other good luck before December 21.
Ha Hong, an office worker said during the last three days, she and her associates often went out drinking to mark the end of the world. "I know it's not true, but the whole world is talking about it so... it's just an excuse to go all out and have a drink." she said.
Taking advantage of the occasion, some restaurant owners even held music programmes and games to attract customers.
In HCMC, an entertainment venue on Tran Huy Lieu Street held a music night with message, "We hope the night will lift your mood to be more optimistic. Every party must come to an end and there will be another party. The sky is the limit."
Doomsday news also flooded the internet, especially on Facebook, which was ablaze with homourous status messages about the day.
Others, however, such as many in Pleiku took it seriously, storing food and water for the end times. For some reason, in this area there was an added detail to the rumour, that snakes and poisonous insects would be all around.
A local of Pleiku said, "I heard about it so much and saw so many others storing food and water, that I thought it would be a good idea just in case."
This meant good business for shop owners though. One said, "I sold dozens of cases of instant noodles and bottles of water. I ran out of candles."
