On May 26, on a flight to Nha Trang to HCM City, a passenger filmed another flyer opening a handbag in the overhead compartment and rummaging through it. He quickly informed the flight crew who asked passengers sitting close to the man to check their luggage. One of them said he had lost a wallet containing VND30 million (USD1,281) and several bank cards.

Earlier on a flight from HCM City to Hong Kong on May 8, another passenger said that he had lost USD300 and HK$2,700 (USD344) from his luggage. Following the report of the chief flight attendant, the police launched an investigation. Two other passengers on the flight said they had filmed a man taking the money. The lost money was found in the suspect’s luggage.
According to a representative from Vietnam Airlines, all people who have been found for stealing on the firm’s flights are blacklisted.
The carrier warned that thefts have tended to be on the rise during summer so passengers need to not put money or valuables in their luggage.
Passengers need to inform flight attendants if they see fellow passengers acting suspiciously.
