Party Central Committee holds 13th conference

The 13th Conference of the 10th Party Central Committee will heighten the sense of responsibility, promote democracy, and make correct and wise decisions on key national issues.

The conference will heighten the sense of responsibility, promote democracy, and make correct and wise decisions on key national issues, Party leader Nong Duc Manh told the 13th Conference of the 10th Party Central Committee opened in Hanoi on October 7.

In his opening speech, Mr Manh said the conference will discuss socio-economic targets and State budgets for 2010 and 2011, a five-year plan for socio-economic development, and a State budget for 2011-2015.

Participants also heard a report on a pilot project to abolish people’s councils at communal and district levels.

Mr Manh highlighted the achievements recorded over the past year and pointed out weaknesses in performing Vietnam’s socio-economic tasks for 2010.

Regarding the five-year plan, Mr Manh said the plan should be attached to long-term targets which will create a firm foundation for Vietnam to become a modern and industrialised country by 2020.

The conference will also discuss revised personnel organisation of the 11th Party Central Committee (PCC) for submission to the 11th National Party Congress. The 11th PCC needs to select qualified members who have a solid political spirit, good moral values, and commitment to the goal of national independence and socialism, stressed Mr Manh.

The Party chief took this occasion to congratulate the capital city of Hanoi on its grand millennium anniversary celebration and to express his sympathy with the flood-affected people in Vietnam’s central region.

The conference will run until October 15.
