Over VND30 trillion needed for transport infrastructure

Over VND30 trillion ($1.6 billion) in transport infrastructure investment is an urgent solution to improving congestion through 2015.

Over VND30 trillion ($1.6 billion) in transport infrastructure investment is an urgent solution to improving congestion through 2015.

It’s part of a proposal submitted by the Department of Transport to the People’s Committee of Hanoi. It says that the investment is needed for constructing elevated expressways, important transportation intersections and additional other roads which need to built from 2010 to 2015.

Upgrading transport infrastructure is the most effective way to deal with the traffic in Hanoi

The proposal points out that there were many possible solutions to help deal with traffic jams. One of the most effective ways is to upgrade transport infrastructure by immediately constructing elevated expressways within the period of 2010-2015 with an aim of utilising existing roads and lessening site clearance.

Accordingly, elevated expressways including the first route with 2 lanes starting from Lac Long Quan road to Yen Phu road; the second route (Belt road 2) with 4 lanes starting from Nga Tu So Street to Nga Tu Vong, Minh Khai, Vinh Tuy Bridge; the third route (Belt road 3) starting from Noi Bai, Thang Long to Mai Dich, Linh Dam, Phap Van; the fourth route with 4 lanes starting from Hanoi Railway Station to Xa Dan, Pham Ngoc Thach, Ton That Tung, Kim Giang, Road 70; the fifth route with 4 lanes starting from Tran Duy Hung to Lieu Giai, West Lake and the sixth route starting from Giang Vo to Lang Ha, Thanh Xuan.


In addition, there are some conventional routes such as the route starting from Buoi, Hoang Hoa Tham to Van Cao; the route starting from O Cho Dua, Giang Vo to Voi Phuc; the route starting from O Dong Mac to Nguyen Khoai; the route starting from Linh Nam, Kim Dong to Dinh Cong, Nguyen Trai, Yen Hoa, Xuan Thuy, Xuan Dinh.

During the meeting with Ho Nghia Dung, the Minister of Transport on February 26, Nguyen Van Khoi, Vice Chairman of People’s Committee of Hanoi said, “Transport issues impact many aspects of socio-economic life, therefore, it’s necessary to copmrehensively solve these problems. The Department of Transport needs to work closely with relevant bodies to carry out the project in the most efficient manner.”
