Donation transferred to Nhu's family
"I just want to be healthy so I can learn to be a doctor," she said.
Nhu had had Takayasu's arteritis, a form of large vessel granulomatous vasculitis with massive intimal fibrosis and vascular narrowing. In 2016, after getting treatment for vascular narrowing, she suffered from heart failure and was transferred to Cho Ray Hospital.
Nhu's father abandoned their family when she was six months old. Her mother went to work in Binh Duong Province and remarried four years ago.
Nhu is staying with her grandparents in a charity house built by local authorities. Each month, her mother sends them VND500,000 (USD21.54) to VND1m. They had to borrow VND10m from the black market and had no idea how to pay for VND200m surgery.
Many readers have called after learning about Nhu's situation and funded Nhu's surgery two weeks ago.
Nhu recovered quickly and was able to return to school. However, doctors said her disease hadn't been completely dealt with and the family would need VND100m (USD4,300) for treatment.
On October 18, representative of Dantri transferred VND246,140,000 donated by readers to Nhu's family.
"I want to thank everyone, the readers and doctors that saved me. I'll work hard to realise my dream to become a doctor to save as many people as possible," Nhu said.
Nhu's grandmother, Ngoc Anh, said they would deposit the money.
