One person was injured and many houses damaged after an excavator struck a bomb during a road project in Quang Ngai Province.
The scene of the blast
Doan Tan Nguyen, chairman of Hanh Minh Commune, said on January 7 that the incident occurred at 2.30 pm. The construction unit was digging a canal at Tinh Phu Nam Village when an excavator suddenly struck a bomb and triggered an explosion.
"The explosion damaged the yard of a nearby household. A local resident, Nguyen Dien Cu, suffered a head injury and had to be admitted to the hospital. Blasted concrete and gravel caused damage to the surrounding houses," he said.
At least 10 houses were damaged in the bomb blast
At least 10 houses were damaged. Nguyen Thi Xuan Quy from Tinh Phu Nam Village said, "We were mortified and ran out when we heard the explosion. Our neighbours said the construction unit struck a bomb. Our walls and roof are damaged with concrete chunks falling down. It's still lucky that no one else was hurt."
The local authorities quickly arrived to help the residents and investigate.
"We are working to review the damage and will keep working with the investor and the construction unit to help the locals," Nguyen said.
