One dies and four missing during ship collision
The system received the SOS signal at 9.35 am on June 9. About an hour before, a fishing boat carrying seven members collided with the oil tanker Annie Gas 9 and all of the crew fell into the sea. Two were saved immediately.
From 9.32 am to 9.58 am, Annie Gas continuously sent signals to the stations in Hai Phong, Mong Cai, Hon La, Ben Thuy, Thanh Hoa and Hon Gai. The system quickly reported the case to the search and rescue unit and successfully made contact with Annie Gas 9 at 10.15 am. At this time, the fishing boat had completely sunk.
The system called for other nearby ships to help to search for the missing fishermen including the Bien Dong Star and Ocean 9.
At 10.44 am, Annie Gas 9 found the body of another fisherman. The authorities are still searching for other missing members.
