The hijacked tanker Sunrise 689 arrived in Vung Tau City on October 11, and will be inspected before any repairs are carried out.

The tanker was attacked by pirates while transporting over 5,200 tons of oil from Singapore to Quang Tri Province on October 2. It arrived in the southern coastal city of Vung Tau yesterday morning. Nguyen Nhat, director of Vietnam's Maritime Department, also arrived in Vung Tau to visit the 18 crew members, deal with damages and supervise the police inspection.

Other local authorities also came, including the border guards, representatives of the Coast Guard and the Maritime Administration of Vung Tau City. The police will inspect the ship before it is repaired. It will then continue its course to Quang Tri Province.

According to the Maritime Administration of Vung Tau City, the tanker was supposed to return last night, but due to bad weather and damages caused by pirates, it could only move at the speed of five nautical miles per hour.
