Northern and central Vietnam likely to see warmer Tet holiday

Northern and central Vietnam are likely to experience warmer, drier weather during the Lunar New Year or Tet holiday, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The centre said February temperatures could be 0.5-1 degree Celsius higher than the long-term average.

While two to three cold air incursions are forecast during the month, their intensity is expected to be weak, with little risk of widespread severe cold such as that seen in early and late January.

The 2025-26 winter is expected to be milder than average, with fewer days of severe cold. By contrast, the 2023-24 winter saw 13 severe cold spells, compared with 12 recorded so far this season.

In southern Vietnam, temperatures during the Tet break are expected to remain moderate, reducing the likelihood of heatwaves typically seen in previous years.

The agency added that humid conditions have already appeared in northern provinces, with the peak humid season forecast from mid-February through March and April.

Meteorologists urged authorities and residents to closely monitor official forecasts amid increasingly complex and extreme weather linked to climate change.
