New ferry route linking Phu Quoc with Tho Chau launched

The southern province of An Giang will launch a ferry service linking Phu Quoc and Tho Chau Special Zone from January 19, improving transport, medical evacuation and tourism access in the southwest.

The An Giang Department of Construction on January 15 approved a high-speed ferry operator to run scheduled passenger services between Phu Quoc and Tho Chau.

The ferry, with a capacity of 275 passengers, will operate once daily from Monday to Saturday. Departures from Bai Vong Port in Phu Quoc are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 10.30 am, while return trips will leave Tho Chau Port on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 8 am.

Tho Chau Special Zone covers about 14 square kilometres across eight islands, lying more than 100 kilometres south of Phu Quoc and around 220 kilometres from Rach Gia.

Despite its strategic location and strong tourism potential, access to Tho Chau has long been constrained by limited transport links.

At present, passengers travelling from Phu Quoc typically have to wait up to five days for a public ferry, with the sea journey taking about five hours.
