Vietnam Airlines to add 60,000 seats for Lunar New Year travel peak

Vietnam Airlines has announced to release about 60,000 additional air tickets, operating nearly 300 extra flights to meet surging demand during the 2026 Lunar New Year or Tet travel peak.

The carrier said the extra capacity will be deployed from February 9 to March 3, 2026, from the 22nd day of the final lunar month to the full moon of the first lunar month.

Most additional flights will depart from Ho Chi Minh City to high-demand destinations including Hanoi, Vinh, Haiphong, Thanh Hoa, Danang, Hue, Chu Lai, Buon Ma Thuot, Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, Quy Nhon and Phu Quoc, particularly on the busy north-south trunk routes.

Vietnam Airlines will also add four routes from Haiphong to Nha Trang, Can Tho, Buon Ma Thuot and Phu Quoc, a move aimed at easing pressure on major corridors during the peak period.

Passengers are advised to book early via official sales channels and to use online check-in within 24 hours of departure through the airline’s website, mobile app, VNeID, hotline or self-service kiosks at airports.

Travellers are also encouraged to use biometric identification, which allows those without checked baggage to proceed directly to security screening, helping reduce congestion at airports.

Earlier, the head of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam issued a directive urging the aviation sector to ensure safety and service quality during the Lunar New Year peak and Spring Festival season, ahead of the 14th National Party Congress.

Airlines were urged to optimise fleet use, comply with slot allocations and minimise technical delays, while airports were told to strengthen staffing and infrastructure to avoid congestion.
