Dantri/Dtinews Online Newspaper opens a new bridge for people in a remote village in the central province of Nghe An on May 18.
Dantri’s 22nd bridge is 18 metres long and 1.75 metres wide, and has been built in Huoi Xui Village in the mountainous Ky Son District thanks to donatinos of VND500 million (USD21.740) from the Thanh Hoa-based Thieu Do Vietnam Company and VND70 million from the commune's budget.
Speaking at the bridge opening ceremony on May 18, Dantri/Dtinews' Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Nguyen Xuan Toan, expressed his thanks to the Thieu Do Company, local authorities and people in Keng Du District for their help and support during the construction of the bridge.
"Thanks to support from kind donors and local authorities and people in many localities, Dantri/Dtinews has supported the construction off 22 bridges and over 40 school projects in many difficult areas including six bridges and a school project in Nghe An Province, Toan said. "We hope that the bridge will help local people and contribute to the area’s socio-economic development."
Vice-chairman of Ky Son District People's Committee, Tho Ba Re, said that he wanted to send his thanks to Dantri Newspaper and Thieu Do Company for the support.
"The bridge over the Huoi Xui Spring is a dream come true for people in this poor village," the official said. "Our children no longer have to worry about travelling to school during the flood season."
Chairman of Keng Du Commune People's Committee, Luong Van Ngam said that they live in the furthest part of Ky Son District, in an area dominated by difficult mountainous terrain.
"Most of the residents in Huoi Xui Village are from ethnic Thai and Kho Mu groups who live on rice farming and fishing," he said. "Despite support from the government, all of them live in poverty."
Chairman of Thieu Do Company, Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen congratulated local people on their new bridge.
"Many of our staff have donated money to raise the VND 500 million to support the construction of the bridge for people in Keng Du Commune," Huyen said.
At the ceremony, the company also presented scholarships to 40 students.
